The Hive Homeschool Community Culture Expectations

To provide clarity and consistency in expectations regarding the culture at The Hive Homeschool Community (“The Hive”), we require all of our members to agree to our community cultural expectations document.

I agree…

  • Parent/guardian involvement is necessary to the success of The Hive as a homeschool cooperative, and, therefore, I will willingly and joyfully carry out my volunteer roles within the community.

  • To prioritize regular attendance and participation as it will benefit both individuals and The Hive community as a whole.

  • To volunteer as a classroom aid and/or to teach for a combined 2 hours of every Class Day and as further needed in the case of volunteer shortage due to illness or absence.  I agree to follow the absence protocol outlined in the handbook when I am unable to volunteer.

  • To volunteer in one Team Role for the school year.  Current teams include Class Days, Nature Days, Legal and Finance, Communication, and Member Engagement.

  • The Hive is a Christian faith-based co-op. I acknowledge that this will serve as a foundation to the community culture.  I agree not to undermine or teach against the Statement of Faith during co-op-sponsored events or in any media form identified with The Hive, or to cause division among members.

  • As homeschooling families, home is the most appropriate place to teach and guide our children regarding sensitive and complex issues in our world. One such issue that is a focal point in our current cultural context is all matters regarding gender, sexual orientations, and marriage. As many of our member families take a traditional view of marriage and/or gender, and parents/guardians decide for their own families when to address these topics, I agree that I will not bring in books or materials that would introduce a different perspective which families may not have yet addressed with their children. Additionally, I agree not to teach or enter discussions with students about sensitive and complex topics without their parent/guardian present, and will redirect students to have conversations with their parent/guardian if they approach these issues at any event or activity related to The Hive (both in and out of the classroom).

  • To engage in and model respectful, empathetic, and open conversations on current issues and topics, prioritizing maintaining a relationship even in disagreement. I agree to encourage other members to do the same.

  • To follow the policies and procedures stated in the handbook and bylaws and to abide by the decision of the board of directors in additional matters that need to be addressed.
