How we came to be…

In the fall of 2020, Nicole and Megan started a nature-based homeschool group with the intent of building community for their own children and a few other families. They registered as a Wild and Free Group and over the next few years their community grew into a Nature School co-op with weekly nature lessons followed by free-play in the woods of Springbrook Nature Center in Fridley, MN.

In 2023 they decided to meet just twice a month as many of the families were also apart of classroom based homeschool co-ops. This reduced rhythm provided the space they all needed in their schedules, while also diversifying and broadening their communities.

In March of 2024, Megan approached Nicole about the idea of turning their Nature School into a full-blown homeschool co-op. The idea of combining class days and nature days into one co-op was appealing as it would simplify their friendships and bring more intentionality into billing community. After much brainstorming, discussion, and prayer, they invited Emily into the mix and officially launched The Hive Homeschool Community in April 2024.
