The Hive Homeschool Community Statement of Faith
How to Approach the Statement of Faith
The Hive Homeschool Community (“The Hive”) is a Christian, faith-based co-op. We understand that a Statement of Faith can be used for multiple purposes depending on the organization. For the sake of clarity, we want to explain the intent for the Statement of Faith here at The Hive.
Our families may come from different faith backgrounds, therefore, we do not expect everyone that attends The Hive to be in complete agreement on issues of faith and theology.
Members do not need to believe or agree with each of these beliefs to join and benefit from The Hive. We require all members to acknowledge that the Statement of Faith will serve as a foundation to the culture at The Hive, and to agree not to undermine or teach against it during co-op-sponsored events or in any media form identified with The Hive, or to cause division among members.
Because the decisions of the Board of Directors will continue to impact the direction, vision, and implementation of The Hive, we do require that all members of the Board of Directors sign a statement that they are in agreement with these beliefs.
This is not an exhaustive list of everything we believe to be true. However, we believe these are the essential aspects for having unity in our communication and in our leadership during our meetings.
There are many topics of faith and culture on which members will have strong convictions, but on which we as a parachurch organization will not hold an official position. We want The Hive to be a place where adults can engage in and model respectful, empathetic, and open conversations on such topics, maintaining a relationship even in disagreement.
These beliefs can be expected to guide the decisions of The Hive leadership and be woven into aspects of the school day, such as praying as a group, singing a worshipful song, citing scripture in a class, etc.
The Hive is not intended to be a replacement for a church community and leadership. We believe that your family and/or church should be the primary places for theological instruction and discipleship.
In all things, we seek to follow the example of Jesus, who was the perfect example of what it looks like to both uphold Truth and to love, welcome and serve all people.
If there is anything included (or not included) in the Statement of Faith that you would like to discuss, the leadership at The Hive welcomes you to reach out so we can listen and discuss your concerns.
The Hive Homeschool Community Statement of Faith
God:
There is one living and perfect God, creator and sustainer of all things, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God, who became man, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to pay the penalty of death for sin, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven.
The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father and Son to empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. He lives in every believer and is a constant helper, teacher, and guide.
God’s People:
Every human being is created in the image of God and must be treated with compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity.
All people are sinners and in need of a Savior to rescue us from the penalty of sin, which is death.
God provided this Savior, Jesus Christ, through His death and resurrection. Anyone who trusts in Jesus receives this salvation– by grace alone, through faith alone.
One of God’s purposes for his people is to be part of His Church, a family of believers from all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds, that reflects His unity and love.
We have experienced God’s grace and redemption and are called to exemplify this same grace and redemptive work in all areas of our life.
The Church, the Bible, and Christ’s Return
Jesus Christ is the head of the Church and all believing people are members.
The Bible is the inspired word of God, the supreme authority for all faith and life.
The Bible is a compilation of texts meant to be interpreted within the original genre, historical context, and author’s intent as it is applied into current contexts.
Jesus Christ will return and when he does he will make the wrong things right.
